Erik and Moe Hagestuen, R & D, Elementary Ed.
At St. Philip the Deacon since: 2002
Faith Background: I (Erik) was raised in a Lutheran family in Aitkin, MN. Our family joined St. Philip when we moved to Plymouth in 2002 after hearing such praise from my sister, who is also a member here. My wife, Moe, was raised in a Catholic family, and attended Catholic schools. The most important common ground for us was faith, and making SPDLC our new home congregation.
Professional Background: I manage a Research and Development group for a large company based here in the Twin Cities. Moe is a licensed Elementary teacher currently staying home with our children — Nora, Griffin and Linnea — and also volunteering at Birchview Elementary.
What is something you love about St. Philip the Deacon? We love many things, but one common thread in our family is our love for music. It is a great reflection thread to have woven into the services. We get to listen to so many talented people. We also look forward to singing Silent Night on Christmas Eve by candlelight each year, among so many other moments. Our family looks forward to the services, attributed to both wonderful Pastors and a great Children’s ministry team. Our children also look forward to Faith Creek (St. Philip the Deacon’s Sunday School program) each week.
Have you ever been surprised by God? Honestly, we struggled to get to church in my years of attending graduate school. After coming from strong, church-going and Lutheran/Catholic backgrounds, I was surprised by God’s acceptance and forgiveness for being away so long.
If you could meet God face-to-face, what would you want to ask? Being a scientist, I guess I would love to have a discussion and receive more details of His creation of the world.
