The Bible in Stained Glass – Heavens
Window 5: Heavens
We continue our walk here through the stained glass panels in the St. Philip the Deacon sanctuary.
One of the reasons I like these panels is that when we gather for worship at St. Philip, we gather surrounded by them — and surrounded, therefore, by the Biblical story that they retell visually.
This subtle but important fact is a reminder that we are part of that same ongoing story — part of the continuing story of the God who loves us so much that he made us, and saved us, and still sustains us.
This fifth window in the series — “Heavens” — makes use of several specialty glasses to suggest the heavens. Ribbons of color swirl through the glass and create suble cosmic patterns and colors. Present are symbols of the sun, moon and stars.
Genesis 1:14 – “And God said, ‘Let there be lights in the dome of the sky to separate the day from the night; and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years. . .’ “
